Intermediate Winter MRAP/HMMWV Operations
Winter MRAP Training
Winter MRAP Training

Who this course is for:

This course is for officers who have completed SWATMOD’s Intermediate MRAP/Armored Vehicle Operations Course, or a MRAP Drivers Training course elsewhere (proof required) and want to further their knowledge and experience of MRAPs while driving in urban areas, on highways with moderate to heavy traffic, limited access roadways, and off road during winter conditions.

Purpose:

The purpose of our training course is to offer an in-depth program that doesn’t exist in the Midwest to thoroughly train law enforcement officers how to operate military type vehicles that departments obtained through the 1033 program.  This course will enforce officer safety through education of the vehicle(s), specifically their own vehicle(s) that they use, as well as the possible dangers while operating such vehicle in urban areas, on highways with moderate to heavy traffic, minimum maintenance roads, off road, and with the use of a ground guide during winter conditions.  By the end of the course, each member will be capable and confident in performing intermediate winter operations with their MRAP, and will know how to properly care for and maintain their emergency vehicle(s).

Objectives:

Upon completion of the classroom instruction, the student will be able to:

  • Explain essential driving skills and proper maneuvering of vehicle while operating in urban areas, on highway roads with moderate to heavy traffic, limited access roads, as well as on various terrain, weather, and extreme temperatures

  • Interpret universal hand signals with the use of a ground guide

  • Analyze mock driving plans using the specifics of their MRAP on how to safely get to a location due to vehicle limitations and weight restrictions

  • Identify warnings and cautions of risk reduction for rollovers and tipping while operating the vehicle

Upon completion of the skills training, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proper pre and post inspection walk through

  • Point out the proper emergency egress of the vehicle
